ener2i Brokerage Event and Workshop on Energy, Innovation and Security in Tbilisi, Georgia [event review]

On 1 and 2 June 2015, ener2i, together with SECURE R2I, held a Workshop on Energy, Innovation and Security in Tbilisi, Georgia and its ener2i Brokerage event in Georgia organised by Energy Efficiency Centre Georgia (EECG). Both events gathered around 60 participants from Georgia and several EU countries.

On the first day, the participants were warmly welcomed by George Abulashvili, Director of EECG and Manfred Spiesberger, from the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI), coordinator of the ener2i project. After two presentations on “Horizon 2020, EU Programme for Research and Innovation: opportunities for Georgian-EU cooperation” by Murman Margvelashvili (WEG-World Experience for Georgia) and on “Georgian Innovation Agency: innovation stimulation measures” by Irakli Kashibadze (Georgian Innovation Agency), the ener2i Innovation Voucher Competition Georgia Award Ceremony took place. George Abulashvili and Manfred Spiesberger presented the the ener2i Georgia Innovation Voucher Competition 2015 for stimulating cooperation between companies and researchers and the six funded Innovation Voucher projects.

In the afternoon session face-to-face meetings were arranged to broker contacts and to develop joint innovative projects among research and business representatives from Georgia and EU countries.

On the second day, the ener2i and SECURE R2I Workshop on Energy, Innovation and Security in Georgia took place at the Technical University of Georgia. After presentations about the general aspects of innovation, energy and security there were two parallel sessions in the afternoon: In Session 1 the participants discussed about the use of bioresources and energy efficiency in buildings (ener2i), in Session 2 the topics of the presentations and discussions related to “Innovation in security issues” (SECURE R2I).
