ASEAN-EU Science, Technology & Innovation Days
BACKGROUND OF THE STI DAYS

The ASEAN-EU Science, Technology and Innovation Days (STI Days) are a forum style event, initiated by the EU-FP7 funded INCO-NET project “SEA-EU-NET II”. The first event of this kind was organised in Bangkok, Thailand on 21-23 January 2014 and was hosted by the National Science & Technology Development Agency Thailand (NSTDA). The event was a great success hosting the official launch of Europe’s new Framework Programme for research and innovation “Horizon 2020” and roughly 550 participants from both regions. The focus had been laid on providing insight on the European research and innovation landscape to Southeast Asian researchers and research stakeholders.

It will be organised by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). Participants from the EU, Southeast Asia as well as interested colleagues from the rest of the world will meet and exchange on global societal challenges. The event is an ideal occasion for networking and exchange of ideas in the thematic areas Health, Water Management and Environment, Food Security and Safety, Metrology or Innovation.

PROGRAM

The official program of the ASEAN-EU STI days consists of plenary sessions at the beginning and end of the STI Days, focusing mainly on ASEAN-EU STI cooperation with key-note speeches of official representatives, high-level experts and top-scientists.
A dozen of scientific workshops and expert sessions will be organised focusing on the three Societal Challenges of common interest for both regions: Health, Water Management as well as Food Security and Safety. Some other international initiatives will also introduce their activities and widen the scope of the event even further.
Innovation is one of the focal points of the event. In addition to dedicated sessions to the ASEAN Economic Community and Innovation, an Innovation Exhibition, aiming to showcase Southeast Asian research excellence to European actors, will also be organised.
A Brokerage Event, connected to the main scientific topics of the STI days will facilitate the matchmaking of scientists coming from both regions. The winners of the “Paper and Poster competition for young Southeast-Asian scientists” will be offered the chance to participate in the three-day event and present their scientific results to the large public. Field trips to major research and innovation facilities within and beyond Paris (Pasteur Institute, National Agency for Research on AIDS and Hepatitis, Eau de Paris etc.) will show researchers in action for interested participants.
