EU-Central Asia STI Policy Stakeholders’ Conference on Climate Change

The Policy Stakeholders Conference (PSC) on ‘EU-Central Asia STI Cooperation in addressing Climate Change’, hosted by the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic and the National Library of Kyrgyzstan, was held in Bishkek on 23-24 September 2014. It was the first in a series of policy dialogue activities between the EU and CA organised under the IncoNet CA project.

The conference provided the opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views on regional and international STI policies, research programmes and projects addressing Climate Change, among high-level policymakers, international donors, and representatives of the research communities in the EU/MS AC and the CA countries, as well as other key stakeholders active in the region. The aim of the conference was to increase synergies among these stakeholders and the related actions as well as to shape future cooperative initiatives addressing Climate Change between the EU and the CA countries.

More than 145 stakeholders attended the conference with speakers from the five Central Asian countries, several EU Member States and international or regional organisations. The PSC was widely covered in most local mass media.

The event was jointly organised by the Centre for Regional and International STI Studies and Support (CeRISS/Greece), the Eurasian Institute of International Relations (EIMO/Kyrgyzstan) and the Regional Centre for Information and Scientific Development (RCISD/Hungary).
